Now

Updated September 2026

What I am actually doing at the moment, rather than a summary of everything I have ever done. Rewritten every month or so, and out of date the rest of the time.

01 · Writing

Two finished manuscripts and no publisher

Both books are written. Neither is published. That is a stranger position than it sounds, because the work of writing them is over and the work of deciding what they are for has not started.

The immediate task is shorter pieces. The books argue at length; almost nothing here argues at the length of an afternoon, and that gap is the reason the writing section is currently empty.

The thing you were afraid of
Complete. Thirty chapters in six parts, plus a handbook and an epilogue. Read about it.
Nobody has to shrink
Complete. Eighteen chapters, six standalone quantum philosophy sections, and a reflection workbook. Read about it.
Essays
None published yet. The first few are the current priority.
02 · Building

Splitting one site into two

This domain spent years as a marketing consultancy site. It is being turned into a writing site, and everything commercial is moving to a separate domain, where it can be as commercial as it likes without sitting next to an argument about attachment.

That means deleting rather than redirecting, so nothing exists in two places. Some of it is done and some of it is visibly half done, which is what you would expect of a page called Now.

03 · Working

The profession, briefly

Organic discoverability for software companies: what a company should be findable for, and what it should build in order to be. There is one page on it and it sells nothing.

04 · Undecided

Things I have not worked out

Kept here in public because a Now page listing only progress is a press release.

Query agents, or publish them myself
Two finished manuscripts and two entirely different sets of consequences. I keep deferring this one, which is itself an answer of a sort.
How much of the books to put online
The book pages already publish chapter structures and quoted lines. Generous if I self-publish, premature if I query.
Where the two books differ
One contains a handbook and the other is one. I can feel the distinction and have not yet written it down in a sentence that satisfies me.
How often this page should change
Monthly is honest and quarterly is realistic. A stale Now page is worse than no Now page.

Elsewhere on this site

This page is a snapshot. The argument it keeps referring to is in the books, and the reasoning behind the whole thing is on the about page.
